Emmitsburg, Md. (May 8, 2022)--The Mount St. Mary's men's outdoor track and field team finished in second place at the Northeast Conference Championships held at the Mount's Morgan Track. The Mount women's team finished in a tie for eighth place in the team standings. Individually,
Colin Kelly,
Richard Gilchrist and
Dylan LaNoue took home gold medals today to highlight the Mount's performances.
Kelly took home first place in the 800m for the Mountaineers with a time of 1:53.62 while Gilchrist was first in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 13.93 seconds. LaNoue captured first in the high jump by clearing 2.01m (6' 7") as the Mount had three of the top four finishers in the events.
The Mount took the competition to the final event, the 4x400m relay. The Mountaineers entered the 4x400m trailing first-place Wagner by five points, but the Seahawks won the relay to capture the team title.
Todd Charles finished in third place in the 100m dash (10.89) and fourth in the 200m (21.71) while Gilchrist added a sixth-place nod in the 100m (11.07).Â
Will Stephenson scored in the 100m hurdles with a fourth-place finish (15.10) while
Justyn Seivright provided eight points with a second-place mark in the 400m hurdles (53.91). The Mount had a pair of scorers in the 3,000m steeplechase in
John Wang (6th, 9:40.28) and
John Ruona (7th, 9:41.44) and a pair of scorers in the javelin as well in
Matthew Whitaker (4th, 54.01m, 177' 2") and
Andrew Sobocinski (7th, 49.48m, 162' 4"). In the high jump,
Billy Cook finished third and
Dante Elliott fourth with both clearing 1.95m (6' 4.75").
Wagner won the men's meet with 152 points, finishing 11 points ahead of the Mount's final tally of 142 points. The remainder of the field was rounded out by Central Connecticut (111), Fairleigh Dickinson (89), LIU (88.5), Saint Francis U (72), Bryant (65.5), Merrimack (46), St. Francis Brooklyn (29) and Sacred Heart (24).
The Mount women's team finished in a tie for eighth place at the meet.Â
Kenna Hopkins led the Mount with a fourth-place finish in the javelin today (39.17m, 128' 6") while the 4x100m relay was third and the 4x400m relay team fourth.Â
Makenna Miller (6th, 800m, 2:23.00),
Jasmine Kidd (6th, 100m, 12.49 and 6th, 200m, 25.24),
Dominique Jeffery (8th, 400m, 59.74) and Sarah Purnell (8th, 100m hurdles, 16.36) all scored on day two for the Mountaineers.
Saint Francis U ran away with the women's title by compiling 175 points, 56 ahead of second-place LIU. Central Connecticut (104), Fairleigh Dickinson (87), Bryant (79.5), Merrimack (65), Sacred Heart (64.5), Mount St. Mary's (53), Wagner (53) and St. Francis Brooklyn (18) rounded out the field.
