Vision Statement:
To enhance and protect the physical and mental well-being of our student-athletes by providing the highest quality multidisciplinary patient care possible.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare while fostering a global and inclusive environment. We are committed to serving as advocates for the student-athlete and approaching each situation with professionalism, integrity, and a positive morale. All healthcare being delivered is predicated upon evidence-based practices and current therapeutic protocols while utilizing the most appropriate therapeutic modalities available. By cultivating an environment that emphasizes health, safety, education and student-athlete success, the Mount St. Mary’s University Sports Medicine Department is committed to providing a safe environment to compete, recover, and return to a high level of athletic performance.
The Sports Medicine Department at Mount St. Mary’s University is a vital part of the student-athlete experience. The primary sports medicine facility is located in The Knott ARCC (Athletic Recreation Convocation Center), with a staff comprised of nine Nationally Certified Athletic Trainers.
The Sports Medicine Department, led by the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, oversees the day-to-day activities for more than 700 student-athletes in 24 intercollegiate athletic programs. Under his leadership and mentorship, the sports medicine staff works with student-athletes by initiating injury prevention protocols, the examination, assessment, and diagnosis of injuries, immediate and emergency care, and therapeutic interventions for all athletic injuries. The department has a support staff consisting of a group of orthopedic physicians from Frederick Health, strength & conditioning coaches, a sports nutritionist and physical therapists. These dedicated individuals provide an invaluable service to injured student-athletes and are readily-available for consultations. The staff supervises and directs any physical therapy and rehabilitation protocols, working with the Frederick Health Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, that a student-athlete may have to follow to safely return to competition.
