EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 6, 2026) – Back in the top six of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings and in position for a first round bye at the conference tournament, Mount St. Mary's looks to cement their spot in the standings as they battle Sacred Heart Saturday.
MOUNT UPDATE
- Giana Hoddinott drilled the game-winning shot with five ticks remaining on the clock, providing a pivotal road victory against the Iona Gaels on Thursday, 63-62. The Mount clinched a season series sweep over Iona with the win.
- Alana Powell led the charge throughout with a career high 22 points, recording her second 20+ point effort of the season.
- The Mountaineers edged the Gaels in every statistical category expect turnovers, winning in an all-around effort.
- Since the injury to top scorer Gabrielle Kennerly, the Mount is 4-3. Hoddinott remains the top scorer with 10.9 points per game while Amber Bullard averages 10.6 points per game and 5.1 rebounds. Thanks to her 22-point effort, Powell is sitting at 9.9 points per game.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
- Sacred Heart stacked wins early in MAAC play to earn a comfortable position in the standings. However, the Pioneers come into Saturday hoping to stave off a third straight loss after falling to Fairfield and Merrimack.
- Amelia Wood leads the scoring for an offense averaging a hair under 58 points. Wood has 322 for the season or 14.0 per game, followed by Nalyce Dudley, who shoots 46.2 percent from the floor to average 12.7 a contest.
- The Pioneers rank eighth in the MAAC for offense and fourth in the conference for defense.
THE MAAC PICTURE
- Both Mount and Sacred Heart are in the top six. The Mountaineers hold the tiebreaker over Iona for sixth thanks to their season sweep, while the Pioneers are in sole possession of fourth place.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart have met 46 times since the year 2000. The Pioneers have a 35-11 series lead.
- The Mountaineers held the upper hand of late, winning five of the last six. They also won the first MAAC meeting between the two, 75-51, with the team connecting on 15 three-pointers.
