Men's Basketball Returns to Knott Arena to Host Quinnipiac on Thursday Night

MOUNT STORY LINES
  •  Mount St. Mary's used a strong second half to earn a 68-58 win at Niagara on Monday to sweep the Western New York trip.  Arlandus Keyes scored all 15 of his points in the second half to pace four Mountaineers in double figures in the victory.  Luke McEldon added 12, Xavier Lipscomb 11 and Anthony Arrington, Jr., 10 in the win.  Trailing 34-30 at the half, the Mount opened the second half with a 16-to-3 run to take control of the game.  The Mount led by as much as 17 in the second half.
  • Quinnipiac has won the past three meetings in the all-time series, including an 80-69 win on January 4 in Hamden, Conn.  The Bobcats now hold an 18-16 lead in the series.  The Mount is 13-5 all-time at home against Quinnipiac, but is 2-5 in MAAC regular season matchups with the Bobcats.
  • The Mount has picked it up on the defensive end, holding the opposition to 64.3 points on 36.3 percent shooting over the past eight contests. The Mountaineers have held the opponent to under 35 percent in four of those eight games.
  • The Mount is coming off a sweep of its Western New York road trip, posting double-digit victories at Canisius (78-68) and Niagara (68-58).  It is the first time the Mount has recorded back-to-back road wins by 10 or more points since February of 2018.  That year, the Mount downed Robert Morris, 67-42, on Feb. 1 and Central Connecticut, 71-57 on Feb. 8.
  • The Mountaineers rallied from a halftime deficit in each of the wins over Canisius and Niagara.  The Mount held an 83-to-58 advantage in the second half of those two games, holding the duo to 32.8 percent shooting overall and 28.6 percent from three-point range.
  • Xavier Lipscomb had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists in the Mount's win over Niagara, the third time this season and the fifth in his career that he has had a game with 10+ points, 5+ rebounds and 5+ assists.  He is just the fifth Mountaineer over the past 20 seasons to post five or more career games with those numbers.  The others including Jeremy Goode (17), Elijah Long (12), Dakota Leffew (9) and Damian Chong Qui (8).
  • Arlandus Keyes is averaging 18.5 points over the past two games, shooting 14-of-22 (.636) from field and 7-of-13 (.538) from three.
  • Up next, the Mount hosts Rider for the annual Homecoming game on Saturday, January 24, at 5:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.
