MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Mount St. Mary's pulled away from Canisius in the second half for a 78-68 win on Saturday in Buffalo.  Arlandus Keyes led the way with 22 points while Trey Deveaux added 16 in the victory.  Luke McEldon added 10 points, all in the second half, in the win.  An 11-0 run at the midpoint of the second half gave the Mount a double-digit lead en route to the win.
  • Mount St. Mary's has won three in a row against the Purple Eagles, and four of the past five matchups to even the all-time series at four wins each.
  • The last meeting between the Mount and Niagara was an instant classic on Valentine's Day last year.  Carmelo Pacheco drained the game-winning three-pointer with 1.2 seconds left to cap a wild ending as Mount St. Mary's topped Niagara, 84-83, at the Gallagher Center.  Trailing 83-80 after a pair of free throws by Niagara's Zion Russell with 9.6 seconds remaining, the Mount's Xavier Lipscomb was fouled with 5.2 seconds on the clock.  Lipscomb headed to the line for a 1-and-1 and calmly sank the first shot.  The Mount had perfect execution on missing the second free throw on purpose.  Lipscomb shot the ball quickly, and Terrell Ard Jr. was first in the lane to grab the rebound.  He fed Pacheco on the left wing, and the sophomore swished home the go-ahead bucket with 1.6 seconds on the clock for the improbable game-winning basket.
  • Xavier Lipscomb is shooting 91.8 percent (67-of-73) this season, good for 14th in the nation and second in the MAAC.  Lipscomb had his streak of 35 consecutive free throws snapped with a first-half miss against Siena.  He is 36-of-37 (.973) at the foul line in MAAC games this year.
  • Arlandus Keyes poured in 22 points in the Mount's win over Canisius, matching his career high set in an overtime loss at Maryland in December.  Keyes is averaging 14.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over the past four games for the Mountaineers.
  • Abdou Khadre Kébé has started each of the past three games for the Mountaineers, his first three collegiate starts.  The sophomore is averaging 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds over that stretch, including a career-high 13-point effort in the Mount's 70-65 win over Saint Peter's.
  • Up next, the Mount returns to Knott Arena to host Quinnipiac on Thursday, January 22, at 7 pm.  The Mount will then host Rider on Saturday, January 24, at 5 pm for the annual Homecoming Game.
