Mount St. Mary's Pulls Away in Second Half in 78-68 Road Win at Canisius

Buffalo, N.Y. (January 17, 2026)—Mount St. Mary's pulled away from Canisius in the second half to earn a 78-68 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center.  Arlandus Keyes matched his career high with 22 points to pace the Mount in the victory.  The Mount improves to 7-12 overall and 3-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with the win.

Leading 53-51 midway through the second half, the Mount scored the next 11 points to take control of the game.  Keyes started the run with a lay-up, and Abdou Khadre Kebe followed with a bucket to make it 57-51.  Deveaux followed a Mount miss with a dunk ahead of an Anastasios Rozakeas triple.  Deveaux capped the run with a pair of free throws for a 64-51 lead with 5:38 left.

The Mount extended the lead to 15 points (70-55) after a Luke McEldon basket on a nice feed from Khadre Kebe with 2:42 on the clock.  Canisius (8-11, 3-5 MAAC) used a 10-2 run to make it 72-65, but Deveaux hit a pair of free throws to stop the run.  The Mount was able to close out the win from there.

Keyes finished the game with 22 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks, shooting 9-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from three-point range.  Deveaux added 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting while McEldon finished with 10 points and seven rebounds in the victory.  Khadre Kebe chipped in nine points and six boards with Mason So contributing seven points the bench in the victory.  Bryan Ndjonga led Canisius with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Kahlil Singleton tallied 21 points.

Mount St. Mary's shot 55.8 percent (29-of-52) from the field in the game, including 60.0 percent (18-of-30) in the second half.  The Mount was 8-for-19 (.421) from three-point range. Canisius shot 40.0 percent overall and was 13-for-34 (.382) from beyond the arc.  The Mount held a commanding 38-to-26 edge on the boards.

The Golden Griffins used a hot start from three-point range to build the early lead.  Singleton hit three triples in the opening six and a half minutes as Canisius took a 16-8 lead.  Trailing by five at 18-11, the Mount went on a 5-0 run with Arrington, Jr., converting a steal and a lay-up to make it a two-point game.

Canisius maintained the lead and held a 29-24 advantage before the Mount scored five in a row to tie the score.  Yakhya Diop went 3-for-4 at the line, including a free throw that tied the score.  Singleton's fourth three-pointer of the half made it 34-31 before Xavier Lipscomb hit a pair free throws to cut the deficit to 34-33 at the break.

The Mount shot 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range in the first half.  Canisius was 12-of-28 (. 429) overall from the field in the opening half, but connected on 8-of-16 (.500) from three-point range.  The Mount was also hindered by nine first-half miscues.

Singleton led all scorers with 14 points for Canisius in the first half, hitting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.  Keyes had 10 points and Deveaux eight for the Mountaineers.

  • The Mount holds a 7-2 lead in the all-time series with Canisius, including a 5-1 mark in MAAC regular season matchups.
  • The win was the Mount's first MAAC road win this year, moving the team to 1-3.The Mount is now 3-9 on the road for the season.
  • Xavier Lipscomb dished out a team-high six assists in the win.
  • Keyes matched his career high of 22 points set earlier this season in a 95-90 overtime loss at Maryland.
