EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 13, 2025) – In their final non-conference action before the start of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball welcomes Mercyhurst to Knott Arena for the first time.
MOUNT UPDATE
- Alana Powell set the tone in the scoring column, and Amber Bullard set it in the rebounding column as Mount St. Mary's defeated Lehigh for the first time since 1993 in a 75-64 victory. Powell scoring a career-high 21 points while Bullard earned 11 rebounds in a double-double effort. Gabrielle Kennerly reached double figures in scoring and Jaedyn Jamison earned double figures in rebounding.
- Mount now stands in fourth place in the MAAC standings and are third in the conference for Barttorvik ranking (233rd nationwide) and fourth for NET rankings (237th nationwide).
- Scoring 75 was the high-water mark so far this season for the team, rising their stock in the MAAC to the fifth-best scoring offense. They held Lehigh right at their average of 64.8 for the season, which ranks fourth in the conference.
- For Monday's game, the Mount looks to improve to 3-1 against Northeast Conference teams since leaving that league in 2022.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
- Mercyhurst comes to Emmitsburg looking to earn their first win of the season. The Lakers came the closest they have been all season to getting it last Friday in a 60-57 defeat to St. Bonaventure.
- Further compounding the Mercyhurst struggles is leading scorer and rebounder Lena Walz has been sidelined since November 30 when they played Canisius.
- In her absence, the Lakers continue to garner strong performances from Jenna Van Schaik, who is the team's only other double digit average scorer at 11.1 points per game. In the St. Bonaventure game, freshman Sofia Wilson finished with a career best 23 points.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
- Last year the two sides met in Erie for the first time. Mount St. Mary's pulled out an overtime winner, 88-83.
- The contest was a hard fought, back-and-forth battle where Mercyhurst rallied from a 19-point deficit to force the extra session. Mount graduate guard Anna LeMaster earned a career-high 25 points in the win. The game also marked the college debut of current Mountaineers sophomore Nyodie Guerard.
LOOKING AHEAD
MAAC play begins on Friday, December 19 with a 7 p.m. showdown at home against Marist. The Red Foxes were the Mount's quarterfinal opponent last year at the conference tournament.
