EMMITSBURG, Md. (July 25, 2024) –
Annie Carey, a rising sophomore for the Mount St. Mary's track & field team received a place on the USA Paralympic Team to compete in the 2024 Paralympics.
Following the Olympic games, events take place August 30-September 8 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis outside Paris. She qualified for both the 100m and 200m dashes and has a chance to also perform in the long jump.
"Annie is selfless, works hard, and doesn't complain through adversity." Mount St. Mary's Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Jay Phillips said. "She showed a level of resilience and endurance uncommon to most freshmen. I don't think many people outside of herself can truly appreciate the leaps of faith she has taken over the past year. To see her courage pay off in hitting 3 PRs and qualifying for the Paralympic Games is a tremendous source of joy for Mount T&F, her coaches, and her teammates."
No stranger to the international stage, Carey won a bronze medal at the 2023 Parapan American Games in Chile as a long jumper. She holds world records for the long jump, resetting the record three times in various meets over the years.
In her first season as a Mountaineer, she participated in nine meets including the MAAC Outdoor Championship, earning a season best long jump of 4.79m (15 ' 8.75").
