The Mount women's soccer team is back in action with a pair of road games this week, playing at Robert Morris on Thursday afternoon and at Towson on Sunday night.

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's is 0-0-1 this season after a 1-1 draw in the season opener against Western Carolina.  The Mount's game on Sunday at Bucknell was declared a no contest after lightning forced a cancellation at halftime.  Goalkeeper Arden Lembryk made eight saves in the Mount's 1-1 tie with Western Carolina, including a terrific stop in the closing seconds to preserve the tie.  Freshman Nicole Wilson scored the Mount's goal with assists going to Maevyn Jones and Taylor Simmons.

ABOUT ROBERT MORRIS:  Robert Morris is 2-0-0 this season after a 2-0 win over VMI and a 2-1 victory against Saint Francis U.  The Colonials have had four different goal scorers on the year while Isabella Bohlen has posted a 0.50 goals against average in two starts.  Haleigh Finale leads the team with nine shots and is one of the four goal scorers for RMU.  Gabriella Lecuona, Kayla Veloso-Lima and Sheridan Reid have also found the back of the net this year.  Renae Mohrbacher has a pair of assists as well.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH ROBERT MORRIS:  Robert Morris holds a 14-13-3 lead in the all-time series between the former Northeast Conference rivals.  Robert Morris has won six of the past seven matchups in the series, including a 2-1 overtime win at Waldon Family Stadium on August 21, 2021.  The Mountaineers are 3-8-3 all-time on the road at RMU with the last win coming on October 10, 2003 (4-3).

ABOUT TOWSON:  Towson is 1-1-0 this season after a 1-0 win at Howard and a 3-1 home loss to LaSalle.  Phoebe Canoles has scored both Towson goals this year while Jasmine Hamid has the team's lone assist.  Riley Melendez has started both games in goal, tallying 11 saves and a 1.50 goals against average in the two contests.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES WITH TOWSON:  Towson holds an 18-3-0 lead in the all-time series with the Mountaineers, including a 3-2 overtime win at the Mount on September 5 last season.  Towson has won the past four meetings between the two local rivals with the Mount's last win in the series coming on August 24, 2012 (4-1).  The Mountaineers are 1-10-0 all-time on the road against Towson with the lone win coming on August 24, 1995 (1-0).

WELCOME TO THE MAAC:  In addition to having a new head coach, the Mount will also be competing in a new conference this season.  Mount St. Mary's was announced as the 11th member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on May 2 after a 33-year run in the Northeast Conference.  The Mountaineers were picked ninth in the annual MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll.  Quinnipiac was tabbed as the league favorite, followed by Niagara, Fairfield, Siena, Iona, Marist, Rider, Manhattan, the Mount, Canisius and Saint Peter's.

MAAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  It did not take the Mountaineers long to earn a weekly award in their new conference.  Goalkeeper Arden Lembryk was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after making eight saves in the Mount's 1-1 draw with Western Carolina in the season opener.  Lembryk made a key stop in the closing seconds to preserve the tie.

HEAD COACH MELISSA SHERWOOD:  Head coach Melissa Sherwood begins her first season at the Mount with this weekend's pair of games.  Sherwood, hired in January, previously was the Associate Head Coach at Northwestern State, helping lead the Lady Demons to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2005.  Sherwood was the head coach at Saint Peter's for four years (2016-19) as well, posting a 1-2-1 record in season openers with the Peacocks.

UP NEXT:  The Mount hosts Radford on Thursday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
