NEW YORK, N.Y. (February 21, 2026) – Led by a record setting effort from
Ethan Demeter, Mount St. Mary's enjoyed numerous successes during the first day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men sit in second place with 45 points, and the women are in sixth with 18 points.
Day two of the MAAC Championships has advanced to noon on Sunday (Feb. 22) in anticipation of wintry weather destined to hit New York City.
Demeter broke both the MAAC record and the Mount school record for the pole vault, earning a mark of 5.18 meters. The sophomore usurped the records set by
Arran Fahey during the same meet last year.
The win by Demeter was one of several podium finishes earned by vaulters and jumpers.
Tyler Cash was on the podium with Demeter, coming in second at 4.88 meters.
Atebeh Awungjia finished second in the men's long jump at 7.22 meters, good for a top 10 spot in the program record book. In the high jump,
Donovan Harrington and
Dante Elliot finished 2-3, each recording heights of 2.01 meters.
On the women's side, podium finishers were
Rebecca Weir coming in third for the high jump at 1.65 meters and
Camryn Jones-Howard earning third for a 5.80 meter long jump. Jones-Howard's mark ranks third in program history.
