EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 13, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's track & field won the Messiah Invitational over the weekend, and junior
Emelie Beckman now lays claim to both the indoor and outdoor pole vault following her performance at the meet.
With 148 points, the women took the meet in decisive fashion, defeating hosts Messiah by more than 30 points. On the men's side, they finished fourth with an accumulated total of 72. Members of the team also competed at the JMU Invitational, which was not impacted by team scoring.
Beckman eclipsed the previous record by .01 meters, earning 3.86 meters to win at Messiah. That was enough to surpass Moriah Fitzgerald and her 3.85 meters showing at the 2018 Northeast Conference Championships. The Swedish junior now has both the record for both seasons, coupling this weekend's performance with the 4.05 meter pole vault earned at the IC4A/ECAC Championships this past winter.
Beyond Beckman's effort, four more Mountaineers secured top five times and marks among Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competitors. Joining her at Messiah was
Marta Gonzalez Alvarez, who is now second in the league behind teammate
Keighan DeCoff for the discus, compiling a throw of 39.50 meters. At James Madison,
Daniel Reader posted a 21.39 second race in the 200 meter to rank third in the MAAC at present.
Maeve Parrish is in the same spot for the 800 meters with a 2:14.93.
Abdulazeez Iyiola is fifth in the 110 meter hurdles after running the race in 14.75 seconds.
At Messiah, several members of the team recorded individual victories. These included
Jaidyn Wiseley (high jump, 1.51 meters),
Madelyn Valpy (triple jump, 11.57m), DeCoff (hammer throw, 43.56m),
Rebecca Weir (javelin, 40.26m),
Caleb Nelson (triple jump, 14.27m), and
Donovan Harrington who won both the high jump at 1.87 meters and long jump at 6.81 meters. Iyiola won the 400 hurdles at James Madison with a time of 56.23 seconds.
Off from meets over Easter Weekend, the Mount splits their teams to three different meets over the last weekend in April. Athletes head to Charlotte, Lehigh, and Saint Francis U.
