Road Game Awaits Women’s Basketball at Sacred Heart

EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 10, 2025) – Moving on from a tough second half at home versus Manhattan, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball heads to Connecticut to battle Sacred Heart.  
 
MOUNT UPDATES & NOTES
  • At Knott Arena this past Thursday, the Mountaineers fell to the Jaspers 75-47. The home side finished the second half with 11 points, surrendering a 36-32 advantage at the half.
  • Anna LeMaster was the leading scorer for the Mount with 14 points which included a 4-for-7 effort from beyond-the-arc. The graduate student now leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for three pointers per game, averaging 2.5.
  • Mount St. Mary's fell to Manhattan in the rebounding category, 34-32. When outpaced on the glass, the Mountaineers stand at 0-10 on the season. All three of their wins came with the team crashing the boards better than their competition.
  • Gabrielle Kennerly and Jo Raflo also posted double figures in Thursday's game. Combining with LeMaster, the trio average 37 of the team's 58 points per game.
  • Despite the 47 points scored, Mount remains sixth in the conference for scoring.
  • At 1-3, Mount St. Mary's is tied for ninth with Sacred Heart and Canisius.
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
  • Sacred Heart matches Mount St. Mary's in the MAAC standings, with their lone win coming against Canisius. The Pios are in their first season as conference members.
  • Picking up the mantle left by the Mount, SHU won two consecutive Northeast Conference championships before making the jump to the MAAC.
  • Ny'Ceara Pryor makes the biggest impact for the Pioneers. The junior from Baltimore leads the team in points per game (18.3), rebounding (6.2), assists (3.7) and steals (3.5). She is the two-time reigning Northeast Conference Player of the Year.
  • Amelia Wood also averages double figures for Sacred Heart by earning 10.2 points per game. Emma Kirby is an effective scorer, making 55.4 percent of attempts.  
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Going back to 2000, Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart are part of the group of NEC schools to make the leap to the MAAC. The Pioneers were the most formidable foes against the Mountaineers in the former conference, winning 35 of 45 meetings. The Mount is on a two-game winning streak, sweeping both games in the 2021-22 season.

Next week the squad welcomes Rider for a Thursday (Jan. 16) home game, followed by a road contest at MAAC leader Quinnipiac Saturday (Jan. 18).
