The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team is back in action this weekend with a pair of matches. The Mount visits UDC on Friday before heading to West Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
MOUNT UPDATE:Â Mount St. Mary's is coming off a 4-1 loss to Howard on February 10
th.Â
Sofia Kostirko won at No. 1 singles to give the Mount it's lone point of the match. Kostirko leads the Mountaineers with a 4-4 record in singles action this year.Â
Ana Alvarez-Storni and Kostirko are tied for the team's top spot with four wins each in doubles competition.
ABOUT UDC: UDC enters Friday's match with a 6-4 record this season. The Firebirds are coming off a 6-1 loss to Howard on February 16 in their last match. Polina Zelentsova picked up the Firebirds lone point against the Bison, defeating her opponent in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 at the No.2 position.
ABOUT WVU: West Virginia is 9-1 this season after a 6-1 victory over William & Mary on February 18. Momoko Nagato and Maja Dodik are tied for the team lead with eight singles wins each. Dodik and Maya Bordereau are 8-1 this season as a doubles tandem.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UDC: The Mountaineers are 3-1 all-time against the University of the District of Columbia. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since UDC posted a 5-4 victory over the Mount on September 13, 2011. The Mount's last win over UDC was a 6-1 victory at home on March 16, 2011.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. WEST VIRGINIA: The Mount is 0-4 all-time against West Virginia. WVU earned a 6-1 victory over the Mount last year on Feb. 22, 2023. The previous three meetings were held in the early 1990's.
