Emmitsburg, Md. — Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Saint Francis U on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Mount improves to 8-7 overall on the season, recording its highest win total since the 2014-15 team went 9-8. The six-match streak is also the program's longest win streak since the 2009-10 team won seven in a row to start the season.
Mount St. Mary's set the tone early by claiming the doubles point, winning two of three matches. Bella Pescatore and Venus Tang earned a convincing 6-2 win at No. 1, while Eirini Tsakiri and Margherita Trolese secured the point with a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, the Mount showed resilience in a tightly contested match, splitting the six contests but doing enough to clinch the overall victory. Venus Tang delivered a key straight-set win at No. 3, 7-5, 6-1, and Trolese followed with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 decision at No. 4. Anna Barlini added an important point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Saint Francis U earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles, including a three-set battle at No. 5, but the Mount's depth and early doubles advantage proved decisive.
Now riding a six-match winning streak, Mount St. Mary's continues to build momentum midway through the spring schedule.
