Valpy Resets Record as Mount Track & Field Opens Indoor Season

EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 7, 2024) – Junior Madelyn Valpy reset her own school record in the triple jump, headlining the accomplishments for Mount St. Mary's track & field during their season openers at Navy and Bucknell.

Competing at the Navy Invitational, Valpy won the event by clinching 11.98 meters on her sixth attempt. Her mark bested her previous high of 11.93 meters, set during the ECAC Championships last winter. In addition to the triple, the Edmonton, Alberta native also took runner-up in the long jump, registering a 5.74 meter effort. That mark is good for fourth best in Mount indoor history.

Three more members of the team took home individual victories, including Rebecca Weir winning the women's high jump at 1.60 meters, needing one fewer attempt to clear the bar and achieve the tiebreaker. Freshman Donovan Harrington won the men's long jump, hitting 7.25 meters, good for seventh best in Mountaineer history. Joseph Poleate captured the 60m hurdles in 8.46 seconds.
