EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 7, 2024) – Junior
Madelyn Valpy reset her own school record in the triple jump, headlining the accomplishments for Mount St. Mary's track & field during their season openers at Navy and Bucknell.
Competing at the Navy Invitational, Valpy won the event by clinching 11.98 meters on her sixth attempt. Her mark bested her previous high of 11.93 meters, set during the ECAC Championships last winter. In addition to the triple, the Edmonton, Alberta native also took runner-up in the long jump, registering a 5.74 meter effort. That mark is good for fourth best in Mount indoor history.
Three more members of the team took home individual victories, including
Rebecca Weir winning the women's high jump at 1.60 meters, needing one fewer attempt to clear the bar and achieve the tiebreaker. Freshman
Donovan Harrington won the men's long jump, hitting 7.25 meters, good for seventh best in Mountaineer history.
Joseph Poleate captured the 60m hurdles in 8.46 seconds.
Arran Fahey finished runner-up in the pole vault at 4.85 meters, as did
Jovana Miloradovic for the triple jump at 11.66 meters. Fellow top five finishers at Navy were

Abdulazeez Iyiola,
Gunnar Williams, and
Kevin Zaleski finished third with a time of 3:24.15.
At Bucknell,
Alessandro Campagna was the top finisher, running the 3000m in 9:37.12 as the runner-up. He part of a handful of top five finishes there, including

rd, mile, 4:32.89),
Diego Herrera (5
th, mile, 4:48.19), Dylan Hornlein (3
rd, 3000m, 9:46.18),
Brendan Duff (4
th, 3000m, 9:54.47), and
Torian Neblett (5
th, 60m, 6.95 seconds).
Neither meet was affected by team scoring.
Indoor season continues in January, with meets at Catholic University and Ursinus College.
