Men’s Lacrosse Fourth in MAAC Poll; Dunham Named Co-Preseason Player of the Year

EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 24, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse was predicted to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Poll, announced by the league on Wednesday. Senior defenseman Mitchell Dunham was named the Co-Preseason Player of the Year and placed on the Preseason Defense Team.

In the poll, voted on by the league's coaches, the Mount received a total of 66 points to earn the fourth place spot. Siena is projected to be the favorite with 92 points and five first-place votes, with Marist right behind them with 91 points and four first-place votes. Manhattan took third in the poll, and Quinnipiac was tabbed for fifth place.

Dunham – already an Honorable Mention All-American via USA Lacrosse – returns for his third season in Emmitsburg. He has made 31 starts for the Mountaineers with 118 ground balls and 56 caused turnovers. He was named alongside Kyle Gucwa of Manhattan for the Preseason Player of the Year nod and is joined on the defense team with Brian Mack and Trevor Marsala of Siena.

Mount St. Mary's finished 8-8 in 2023 with a 7-2 mark in MAAC play, taking second place in the league last year. Led by first-year coach Chris Ryan, the team opens the 2024 season February 3 at Navy.
