MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS
Emmitsburg, Md. (September 1, 2023)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross county teams opened the 2023 season by hosting the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals on Friday afternoon. The men's team finished in third place while the women were fourth at the meet.
On the men's side,
Michael Chipi was the Mount's top performer, finishing eighth overall with a time of 15:32.25 for the five-kilometer course.Â
Kevin Zaleski finished 27
th (16:35.40) and
Brendan Duff right behind in 28
th (16:39.62).Â
John Ruona (32
nd, 16:49.69) and
Seth Lassiter (34
th, 16:59.91) rounded out the Mount's top five.
George Washington took home the team title with 22 points. UMBC was second with 51 points, followed by the Mount (85), Howard (113) and Catholic (127). Ryan Fawkes of George Washington was the individual winner with a time of 15:07.86.
On the women's side, freshman
Chloe McCarthy was the Mount's top performer in her collegiate debut. McCarthy finished 13
th overall with a time of 19:39.77.Â
Mary Campbell finished 21
st (20:17.65) with
Erin Billigmeier finishing 26
th (21:30.59).Â
Ellie Dorian (28
th, 21:46.67) and
Riley Bell (30
th, 22:08.21) rounded out the Mount's top five finishers.
George Washington won the team title for the women as well, finishing with a perfect 15 points by having the top five finishers in the race. Howard was second (79), followed by Catholic (84), the Mount (93), UMBC (100) and Northern Virginia CC (170). George Washington's Julia Shanes was the top performer with a winning time of 18:42.70, edging three teammates who finished within .06 of each other.
The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, September 9, at the Dutchman XC Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College.
