EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 1, 2023) – The 44th edition of the Catholic Clash between the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers and Loyola Greyhounds women's basketball teams takes place Saturday on adversarial turf in Charm City.

MOUNT UPDATE

Allowing 21 offensive rebounds last Wednesday, the Mount surrendered 20 second chance points to the UMES Hawks in a 69-52 defeat. One bright scoring was graduate student KC Carter coming off the bench to supply 14 points, tying a career high.

Nine points from Jo Raflo helped maintain her team lead in scoring at 14.2 points per game, with Jessica Tomasetti also holding a double digit mark with 11.6. Raflo's total is good for eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Tomasetti stands third in the conference for steals per game (2.2) and Isabella Hunt stands fifth for rebounding (8.2).

The completion of the contest in Princess Anne pushed the team past the halfway point of their non-conference schedule for 2023-24. Three of those games are upcoming within the next seven days, with the finale at TCU December 22.

SCOUTING LOYOLA

Paced by Lex Therien, the team's leader in points and rebounds, the Greyhounds are pieced together a .500 mark through the first six games. After starting 3-1, Loyola dropped two games to St. Bonaventure and St. John's. The Therien sisters – Lex and Ava – account for almost half the team's scoring and rebounding output. Three-point specialist Kelly Ratigan also averages double figures at 10.2 points, hitting 15 of her 22 shots from beyond-the-arc.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES

Mount St. Mary's has the overall edge in the series, 27-16, but the Division I total is much closer with Loyola winning 12 of the 23 games. Games go back to the Mount's first-ever varsity contest, won by the Greyhounds in 1974. Last year, five different Mountaineers posted double figures in a 73-66 victory in Emmitsburg.

LOOKING AHEAD

Saturday concludes the three-game road slate, and Tuesday (Dec. 5) the Mountaineers come home to face Bucknell at Knott Arena.  A 7 p.m. tipoff is on schedule.
