Emmitsburg, Md. (March 18, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team dropped a Northeast Conference matchup to visiting LIU, 6-1, at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The Mount falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in NEC matches with today's loss.

The Sharks (8-5, 3-1) won two of three doubles matches to take the doubles point and the early lead.  The Mount's No. 1 doubles pair of Elliot Stevens and Giovanni Abriola lost to LIU's Ben Brandherm and Danila Ischanka, 6-2.  Russell Armstrong and Christos Dagklis were edged at the No. 2 spot by Guilherme De Medeiros and Alessandro D'Anna, 7-5.  The Mount's tandem of Filippos Zachiotis and Jarrett Karnibad won at No. 3 doubles, 7-6 (7-3) over Philiip Hilble and Akhilendran Indrabalan.

In singles play, the Mount's lone win came at the No. 3 singles position with Zachiotis taking a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sergio Fernandez Romera.  Dagklis lost a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles to Brandherm in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.  Stevens was edged by Ischanka, 6-3. 3-6. 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Abriola also dropped a tough three-set match at No. 4 singles, falling to D'Anna, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).

The Mount men's team returns to action on Sunday, March 20, with a home match against Saint Francis U.  The match will begin at 1 pm.
