PRINCETON, N.J. — Mount St. Mary's men's tennis saw its season come to an end with a 4–0 loss to top-seeded Marist in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Semifinals on Saturday at the Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse.
The Mount finishes the season at 8–13 overall, while Marist improves to 15–5 and advances to the MAAC Championship match.
Marist took control early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Tom Bevan and Nicholas Suhanitski posted a 6–4 victory over Stefanos Pournaropoulos and Nikos Makris at the top spot, while Jose Catala and Fateh Singh earned a 6–1 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished with Marist leading 5–2.
In singles play, Marist clinched the match with straight-set wins at Nos. 1, 4, and 5. Jose Catala earned a 6–2, 6–4 win over Pournaropoulos at No. 1, while Anirudh Nallaparaju defeated Ryan Wagner 6–3, 6–1 at No. 4. Tom Bevan sealed the victory with a 6–2, 6–4 decision at No. 5.
Several matches remained in progress at the time of the decision. Akarsh Gaonkar was tied after two sets at No. 2, while Alexi Roy had split sets and held a lead in the third at No. 3. Nikos Makris was also battling late in the second set at No. 6 before play was halted.
Notes
- This marks the second consecutive season Mount St. Mary's qualified for the MAAC Championships.
- The Mount entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed after finishing 5–3 in conference play.
- Marist also defeated the Mount earlier this season, 4–1.
