Emmitsburg, Md. (September 11, 2021)—The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams fell out of the main draw, but had several wins in the consolation bracket on day two of the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by the Mount at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.

The duo of Filippos Zachiotis and Russell Armstrong advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to a duo from Saint Francis U.  The Mount trio of senior Marcel Kronin, junior Jarrett Karnibad and sophomore Pablo Martinez Zuccardi dropped their quarterfinal match today as well.  In the consolations, the Mount duo of Elliot Stevens and Giovanni Abriola posted a 2-1 win over a team from Howard.

In the women's main draw, the Mount's tandems of Amber Policare and Shirley Liang along with Riya Mathur and Adriana Barney were each edged by 2-1 scores in their round of 16 matches.  Both duos rebounded to post wins in the consolation bracket.

The tournament format features pairs from each team in the bracket.  Those pairs will play a doubles match, and the individuals will then face each other in best-of-three formats.  Winning teams advance in the bracket while the losing teams move into consolations.

The tournament concludes tomorrow.
