Smithfield, R.I. (May 2, 2021)—The Mount St. Mary's women's outdoor track and field team surged to a second-place finish while the men's team finished third at the 2021 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Bryant University.Â
Dylan LaNoue was the Mount's lone major award winner, taking home the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer in the jumps.
Saint Francis U ran away with the women's title with 195 points, followed by the Mount (113), Sacred Heart (94.5), Central Connecticut (90), LIU (81), Bryant (78.5), Wagner (72), Fairleigh Dickinson (48), Merrimack (43.5) and St. Francis Brooklyn (7.5).
Wagner won the men's meet with 165 points, followed by Central Connecticut (128), the Mount (115), Saint Francis U (90), Bryant (88), LIU (75), Fairleigh Dickinson (65), Sacred Heart (40), Merrimack (35) and St. Francis Brooklyn (17).
Najae Nickerson won both hurdles events to pace the Mountaineers at the meet. The senior won the 110m hurdles in a time of 14.05 seconds, moving her to second on the Mount's all-time top 10 list. Nickerson also won the 400m hurdles, winning the event with a time of 1:02.16.
Not to be outdone,
Chalys Caruth won the 400m dash for the Mountaineers, breaking a 29-year old record in the process. Caruth had a winning time of 55.20 seconds, breaking the Mount's all-time mark of 55.24 set by Jackie Israel on May 16, 1992. Caruth added a third-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.83 seconds.
Dominique Jeffery finished second in the 400m with a mark of 56.71 seconds while
Karington Smith was third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.52 seconds. Â
Rachel Finn finished in second place in the pole vault (3.70m, 12' 1.5')Â with
Tess Long adding a third-place nod in the 1,500m (4:42.48) and
Emily Eckard in the discus (39.42m, 129' 4"). Long chipped in an eight-place mark in the 5,000m (18:10.22) while
Carsyn Hetzler (6
th, triple jump, 11.17m, 36' 7.75"),
Mary Campbell (7
th, 1,500m, 5:01.74),
Kenna Hopkins (Javelin, 6
th, 40.52m, 132' 11"),
Destiny Boone (800m, 7

th, 1:08.160) all scored for the Mount on the day.
The Mount's 4x100m relay team finished fifth with a time of 48.74 while the 4x400m relay squad was third with a time of 3:55.60.
Carter Nave led the way for the Mount men, breaking the NEC record with a leap of 5.05m (16' 6.75") to win the pole vault. That mark is good for second on the Mount's all-time list. Teammate
Carter Holsinger finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 4.40m (14' 5.25").Â
Colin Kelly closed strong to secure a win in the 800m with a winning time of 1:53.57 to earn a gold medal.Â
Will Merritt finished second in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:00.17 with
John Wang finishing fourth (15:16.65) and Kelly seventh (15:33.50) in the event.Â
Justyn Seivright was second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.85 seconds, good for third on the Mount's all-time list.
Wang finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 9:17.44, moving him into second place on the Mount's all-time list with that performance.Â
Dylan LaNoue was fourth in the triple jump (14.96m, 49' 1") with
Sean Fahey finishing seventh (14.29m, 46' 10.75"). Others scoring for the Mount included
