Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 1, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse extended their winning streak to 12 games after they cruised past Saint Francis 18-7.
Kate Kinsella scored six goals to lead the Mountaineers in scoring, while
Zoe Hurlburt scored four goals.
Erin Anderson added two goals and two assists; meanwhile,
Beanie Colson tallied three assists and five draw controls to help guide the Mount to a victory. The Mountaineers caused 16 turnovers compared to the Red Flash's 14 caused turnovers.
Saint Francis was led by Emileigh Scott, who scored four goals to lead the team.
The Mount's
Jenna Oler made five saves, and Elyssa Enrique made seven saves for the Red Flash.
The Mountaineers got off to a quick start when Kinsella scored in the first minute to give the Mount a 1-0 lead. The Red Flash then scored two goals to take their only lead at 2-1. The Mountaineers responded with a 4-0 run that lasted about three and a half minutes to take a 5-2. The run was started by Hurlburt's man-advantage goal to tie the game at two.
Alayna Pagnotta scored her first goal after Anderson found her to make it 3-2. Hurlburt scored 40 seconds later after Colson found her open in the middle and in front of the cage to extend the lead to two. Butler scored her only goal of the game after she fired a rocket past the goalie to cap off the run. Scott scored her goal halfway through the first half to make it 5-3.
The Mountaineers ended the half with a 5-0 run that lasted about 14 minutes after
Sara Moeller scored a minute later to increase the lead back to three. Moeller scored again, while Anderson scored her first goal of the contest to make it 8-3 in favor of the Mountaineers. Kinsella scored her second after the Mount went a man down to move the to score 9-3. Kinsella made the score 10-3 with .01 remaining after the Mount went on a counterattack, and Anderson found Kinsella open, and she fired a shot past the goalie to beat the clock.
The Red Flash came out of halftime with two goals in the first three minutes to cut the lead down to five. The Mountaineers went on a 7-0 run that lasted 19 minutes. The run was kicked off with Hurlburt's third goal, then Kinsella scored two goals less than a minute apart to make it 13-5. Kinsella scored her sixth goal of the day on a free position shot to extend the lead to nine. Pagnotta scored her second goal of the match to give the Mountaineers a ten-goal lead, with 19:18 remaining in the second half. Hurlburt and
Christina Haspert finish off the run with a goal each to put the score at 17-5. Scott scored the Red Flash's final two goals to reduce the lead to 10 goals. Anderson closed out with the game's final goal to reach the final score of 18-7.
The Mount hosts the NEC Semi-Final against Bryant on Wednesday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
