Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Lacrosse Continues Winning Streak as They Beat LIU 18-6

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 7, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse picks up their eighth straight win as they cruise 18-6 versus LIU. Alayna Pagnotta led the Mountaineers with six goals, while Jordan Butler scored five goals and tallied two assists. Kate Kinsella and Sara Moeller both had five total points with three goals and two assists for Kinsella, while Moeller had two goals and three assists. The Mountaineers keep sole possession of first place in the NEC after outshooting the Sharks 32 to 17.

The Sharks were led by Rachel Masullo, who scored three goals, while Jamie Alvino added two goals off the bench.

Jenna Oler made nine save for the Mountaineers in net, while LIU's Hailey Duchnowski made four saves.

Kinsella started off the game by scoring two goals to give the Mount a 2-0 lead. LIU responded with an Alvino goal to cut the lead down to one. Pagnotta scored a hat trick in about three minutes with two assists coming from Moeller to extend the lead to 5-1 in favor of the Mount. Butler scored her first goal of the game after Kinsella found Butler cutting to the front of the net and faked out the goalie to find the back of the net.

Kinsella completed her hat trick to give the Mount a 7-1 lead. Butler then finished up a 6-0 run for the Mountaineers after she juked out her defender and fired a low shot to beat the goalie to make it 8-1. LIU and the Mount traded late goals at the end of the first half to put the score at 9-2 going into halftime.

The Mount continued where they left off in the first half by going on a 4-0 run to start the second half. Butler scored her third goal of the game to increase the lead to eight. She then scored two minutes later to make it 11-2. Pagnotta and Butler each scored free position shots to give the Mountaineers a 13-2 lead. The Sharks responded with a 3-0 run that lasted about two and a half minutes to reduce the lead down back down to eight.

The Mount took a timeout and went on a 3-0 run themselves. Moeller scored her only two goals of the game to put the lead back at 11. Masullo scored LIU's final goal of the game with 7:38 remaining to make it 16-6. Erin Anderson scored her only goal of the day after Moeller found Anderson cutting to the net and delivered a beautiful pass so Anderson could fire a shot pass the goalie. Jordan Groover scored the final goal of the game off a free position attempt to give the Mountaineers an 18-6 victory.

The Mount heads on the road to face CCSU on Saturday, April 10th at 1:00 p.m.
