Mount Women’s Lacrosse Gets Big Win against Wagner to Continue their Five Game Winning Streak

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 24, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse picks up their fifth straight win to take sole possession of first place in the NEC standings after winning 11-6 against Wagner today. The Mount was led by junior Jordan Groover who tallied five total points today after scoring three goals and getting two assists. Alayna Pagnotta also scored three goals, tallied one assist, and picked up one groundball for the Mountaineers. The Mount was outshot 35-23 by Wagner, but the Mountaineers never trailed in the game though.

The Mount's Jenna Oler came up big today making 14 saves for the Mountaineers, while Wagner's Lauren DiStefano made only three saves.

Wagner's Kasey Dorney scored two goals, while Stefani Peluso tallied two assists for the Seahawks.

The Mount jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Kate Kinsella after she made a nice move to juke out the defender and beat the goalie by going high. The next goal did not come until 13 minutes later when Pagnotta scored her first goal of the day. Wagner got on the board with a goal from Erin Kerstetter to make it 2-1 in favor of the Mount. Jordan Butler scored her only goal of the day to give the Mountaineers a 3-1 lead. Wagner responded with two goals to tie the game up at 3 apiece. Erin Anderson scored about four minutes before half to give the Mountaineers a 4-3 lead going into halftime.

Dorney scored for Wagner on an extra man advantage to tie the game back up to start the second half. The Mount then went on a 5-0 run that lasted almost 11 minutes, which allowed the Mountaineers to pull away from Wagner. The run started with Groover's first goal after she beat her man one-on-one then beat the goalie over her shoulder to put the Mount back on top at 5-4. Pagnotta and Groover both scored free position goals to extend the lead to three. Groover completed her hat trick after she ran around her defender and beat the goalie by going above her shoulder again. The Mount finished their run with a goal from Beanie Colson to make it 9-4 for the Mountaineers. Colson also became the Mount's all-time leader in career draw controls after winning five draw controls today.

Wagner was held scoreless for about 20 minutes in the second half until they finally scored with 8:34 remaining in the second half. Pagnotta completed her hat trick when she scored off a free position shot to make it 10-5. Wagner and the Mount traded goals at the end of the second half to give the Mountaineers an 11-6 victory to keep the Mount undefeated in NEC play.

The Mountaineers will play Bryant on Saturday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m. to wrap up their three game road trip.
