John Wang finished in second place to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's cross country teams at the 2021 Northeast Conference Championships held at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday. The Mount men finished fifth in the team standings while the women's team finished in eighth.
Wang earned All-Northeast Conference honors for the second year in a row after his second-place finish at the meet. The senior, who was third overall in the NEC Championships held in February, completed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 25:57.40.Â
Andrew Jackson was the Mount's next finisher, placing 24th overall with time of 27:19.90. The rest of the Mount's top five included
Michael Chipi (31st, 27:52.90),
Kevin Zaleski (35th, 27:56.90) and
Paul Fagnano (38th, 29:09.80).
Central Connecticut captured first place in the overall men's team standings with 28 points, followed by Wagner (68), Merrimack (97), Bryant (112), Mount St. Mary's (130), Saint Francis U (134), LIU (144), Sacred Heart (223), Fairleigh Dickinson (299) and St. Francis Brooklyn (318).
Lesha Kay finished 26th overall to lead the Mountaineer women's team, posting a time of 19:34.30 for the five-kilometer course.Â
Mary Campbell (36th, 19:52.30),
Molly Connelly (39th, 19:54.80),
Michelle Weaver (50th, 20:40.50) and
Emily Klotz (52nd, 21:00.10) completed the Mount's top five scorers at the race.
Central Connecticut won the women's title as well finishing with 32 points, followed by LIU (47), Saint Francis U (75), Sacred Heart (119), Bryant (132), Merrimack (133), Wagner (170), Mount St. Mary's (203), St. Francis Brooklyn (293) and Fairleigh Dickinson (311).
