Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (Wednesday, March 11th) – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team (6-1) took down the Howard Bison (0-5) 15-3 on Wednesday afternoon. Carly Miller led the Mountaineers with six points (3g, 3a) while Beanie Colson, Zoe Hurlburt, and Jordan Groover each tallied two goals apiece. Jacque Pino, Dani Donoghue, Erin Anderson, Kate Kinsella, Jordan Butler, and Alayna Pagnotta all registered a goal for the Mountaineer as well. Jenna Oler got the win in cage, but Madison Bradley and Amber Ryan each got some minutes in the goal. Kate Bieraugel had a strong day with five draw controls to lead all players.
The Mountaineers got off to a quick start scoring four goals in the first ten minutes of this matchup with the Bison. In the second ten minutes of the first half, the Mount would break this one open and take a nine-goal lead. At the break, Howard found themselves down 12-0.
To begin the second period, Alayah Hightower put home the first goal of the day for Howard to make it 12-1. Back-to-back Mountaineer goals from Anderson and Pagnotta had the Mount lead at thirteen goals. Hightower would put home two more as she recorded a hat trick for the Bison. A late goal from Colson, helped the Mountaineers prevail 15-3 today and improve to 6-1 on the year.
Mount St. Mary's dominated the draw controls today going 15-for-20 and picking up six more groundballs than the Bison. The Mountaineers were a perfect 14-for-14 on clears and held Howard to 8-14 on their clear attempts.
Alayah Hightower registered all three goals for the Bison for the hat trick in the loss. Andrea Fievre made seven saves in cage but was charged with the loss.
The Mount women's lacrosse team will wrap-up their two-game homestand against Temple on Saturday, March 14th at 12:00 p.m.
