MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team will look to this weekend's matchups and the spring break trip in South Carolina to gain some momentum as Northeast Conference (NEC) play heats up at the end of March. Last weekend, the Mountaineers fell to new NEC foe Merrimack 5-2. Megan Smith won the lone singles match for the Mount 6-2, 6-4 on Saturday. The team was able to take the doubles point with Alexa Quintanilla/Megan Smith winning 6-2 and Hannah Davis/Mia Pittman prevailing 6-4.
SCOUTING THE FLAMES
Liberty comes into this weekend's matchup splitting their last two matches with Richmond and Furman. The Flames were able to defeat the Spiders 5-1 but fell to Furman 4-3 last time out. Kalani Soli (7-0 at #1 singles) and Alexandra Almborg (5-2 at #2 singles) are the engine that powers this Liberty team. Micaela Ode Mitre (13-6), Tiffany Nguyen (12-7), and Eloise Saraty (10-5) have all posted double-digit doubles victories during the 2019-2020 campaign for the Flames.
SCOUTING THE LANCERS
Longwood currently sits at 4-2 in dual matches after dropping their Big South opener to Campbell 7-0 yesterday. Yulia Almiron has been the top Lancer during the 2019-2020 campaign, posting a 4-2 record at both #1 singles and #1 doubles. Jamie Breunig has also been a solid singles player for Longwood posting a 3-1 record.
INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
Saturday's showdown with the Flames will be the second all-time meeting between the two schools. Liberty won the lone matchup over the Mount 7-0 back in February of 2002. Sunday's matchup will also be the second ever meeting between the Lancers and the Mountaineers. Longwood holds a 1-0 edge over the Mount, winning the only matchup 4-3 in October of 2015.
