PRINCETON, N.J. — Mount St. Mary's women's tennis continued its historic run with a 4–3 victory over Sacred Heart in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Semifinals on Friday at the Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse.
The Mount improves to 14–8 overall and has now won 12 of its last 13 matches, advancing to the MAAC Championship match for the first time in program history.
Mount claimed the doubles point in dramatic fashion. After dropping the No. 1 match, Emma Perkins and Anna Barlini evened things with a decisive 6–1 win at No. 2. The point came down to No. 3, where Margherita Trolese and Eirini Tsakiri battled to a 7–6 (7–4) victory to give the Mount a 1–0 lead.
In singles play, Barlini gave the Mount a 2–0 lead with a win at No. 6 singles. Sacred Heart answered with a victory at No. 2 singles, but Margherita Trolese's win at No. 3 pushed the Mount ahead 3–1. The Pioneers responded again with a win at No. 1 singles to cut the margin to 3–2, but Bella Pescatore clinched the match with a 6–4, 6–2 victory at No. 5. At No. 4 singles, Olivia Zuba secured a 6–4, 7–6 win for Sacred Heart, but it came after the match had already been decided.
The victory marks a milestone for the program, as it is the Mount's first-ever win in a conference semifinal. The Mount had previously gone 0–7 in NEC semifinal matches prior to joining the MAAC.
