Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (Wednesday, February 26th) – The Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse (3-1) team did everything they could to try and erase a seven-goal deficit, but ultimately fell 14-10 to the Patriots of George Mason (3-1). Alayna Pagnotta led all Mount scorers with four goals while Kate Kinsella (3g), Jordan Butler (2g, 1a), and Carly Miller (2a) each recorded multi-point games. On the defensive end, Jenna Oler made nine saves in net and Sophia Stewart (3CTs), Margaret Lonergan (3CTs), and Kaitlyn Ridenour (2CTs) all had multiple caused turnovers in the loss. Zoe Hurlburt add seven draw controls in the contest to lead all players.
The Patriots got off the bus ready to play today, scoring five of the first six goals to take a 5-1 lead just ten minutes into the contest. George Mason would eventually build a 9-2 lead from Morgan Rynn's first goal of the day with under four minutes to play in the first half. Looking for any momentum, Alayna Pagnotta notched her second goal of the day off a free position shot to try and spark the Mountaineer train with 37 seconds left in the first frame. On the ensuing draw, Zoe Hurlburt won an aggressive groundball and found Kate Kinsella at midfield who went right down main street to make it 9-4 at the break.
After cutting the Patriot lead to four, Carly Miller would find a cutting Beanie Colson to make it a 10-7 game. Unfortunately, a three-goal run from George Mason following Colson's goal would give the Patriots a cushion. The Mountaineers would keep battling though, and two straight goals from Pagnotta had the Mount back within four. Butler would follow Pagnotta's two goals with one of her own and the Mountaineers were down 13-10 with 6:49 to play. However, it would be too little too late as George Mason finished off the job to close out the Mount 14-10 on a rainy Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
Deanna Balsama led George Mason with four goals and seven draw controls while Abby Folker added three goals and one assist. Melissa Semkiw made four saves in net and earned the victory in today's contest. The Patriots went 14-for-14 on clears today and forced the Mountaineers into 19 turnovers.
The Mount women's lacrosse team will be back in action next Wednesday, March 4th to take on Campbell at 1PM at Waldron Family Stadium.
