MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team comes into this weekend with a 1-3 overall record after falling to Penn State last weekend 7-0. Jackson Wood and Alonso Garcia were able to force third sets in their matches but were unable to come out victorious. Wood ultimately fell 7-6 (8-6) in a third set tiebreaker and Garcia was dropped 6-0. The Mountaineers will look to bounce back this weekend with Northeast Conference play opening up.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
St. Francis Brooklyn comes into this matchup at 4-5 overall in dual matches this year but are riding a two-match win streak after defeating Wagner 5-2 and Lafayette 4-3 last weekend. The Terriers have been relying on their depth to win matches as their top two singles and doubles teams had a combined record of 0-8 last weekend. The Mountaineers will look for a full team effort to take down St. Francis on Sunday.
INSIDE THE SERIES
The Mountaineers are currently 9-0 all-time against the Terriers in a series that dates back to April of 2001. This will be the third consecutive year the two teams have faced each other with the Mount winning last season's matchup 6-1. Partha Sharma, Jackson Wood, Alonso Garcia, Jean Armstrong, and Evan Hine all took care of business in their respective singles matches. The Mount swept the #1 and #2 doubles matches with Sharma/Wood winning 6-2 and Garcia/Santos prevailing 6-4.
PRESEASON POLLS
In the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Mount was picked to finish fourth. Six-time defending NEC champion Bryant was selected as the preseason favorites for their journey towards a seventh consecutive crown. The Terriers came in right behind the Mountaineers at number five.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Mount men's tennis team will return home next weekend to take on Merrimack and the University of Sciences on Saturday, February 22nd. The match against Merrimack will start at 1:00 p.m. and the battle verse USciences begins at 4:00 p.m.
