HERSHEY, Pa.. — Mount St. Mary's men's tennis dropped a 5–0 decision to Rider in its regular season finale but secured a spot in the MAAC Championships for the second consecutive season. The Mount finishes the regular season at 8–12 overall and 5–3 in conference play, placing fourth in the MAAC standings. Rider improves to 10–7 (6–2 MAAC). The match was played at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa.
Rider claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. The Broncs edged Stefanos Pournaropoulos and Nikos Makris 7–6 at the top spot and earned a 6–3 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with Alexi Roy and Ryan Wagner holding a 5–4 lead.
In singles play, Rider secured the team victory with straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5, and 6. Matteus Froberg Dahlin posted a 6–2, 6–4 win over Akarsh Gaonkar at No. 2, while Nathan Slattery, Roger Martinez, and Matthew Griscti added wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6, respectively.
Several matches went unfinished. Stefanos Pournaropoulos was in a competitive battle at No. 1, leading after a first-set tiebreak win, while Alexi Roy split sets at No. 3 before play was halted.
Despite the loss, the Mount's 5–3 conference record was enough to secure fourth place in the MAAC standings and a berth in the conference tournament.
Up Next: Mount St. Mary's will face top-seeded Marist in the semifinals of the MAAC Championships on Saturday, April 25, at 1:00 p.m. The championships will be held at the Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse.
