Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (September 29, 2019)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team lost to defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus. Sophomore Cheyenna Cook scored her first collegiate goal for the Mountaineers.
CCSU (3-3-4, 1-0-1 NEC) scored a pair of long range goals to take the early lead. In the 12th minute, Roma McLaughlin lofted a long shot from 30 yards out to the upper left part of the goal to give the Blue Devils the lead. In the 19th minute, Shauny Alterisio made it 2-0 when she scored from 35 yards out with a shot to the upper left corner of the goal again. With 3:38 left in the opening half, CCSU extended the lead to 3-0 when Erica Bardes sent a cross to the middle where Jamie Collimore cut in front of a defender to take the pass. Collimore passed the ball across to Allyson O'Rourke, who tapped in the goal for a three-goal advantage.
The Mount (1-9-0, 0-3-0 NEC) put early pressure on the Blue Devils to open the second half, but it was Central Connecticut who scored first in the half to make it 4-0. Bardes took a long ball from Emily Hogan down the left side, and beat Barron to the left to make it 4-0. The Mount got on the scoreboard with a nice play in the 67th minute. Jasmine McCree collected the ball on the right side of the box and passed over to Cook, who notcher her first goal of her career to make it 4-1. CCSU countered just 27 seconds later when Tess Atkinson put home a feed from O'Rourke for the final goal of the game.
CCSU held an 18-to-12 advantage in shots, including a 12-to-4 margin in shots on goal in the game. Mount goalkeeper Barron made four saves in 71:19 of action while Charlotte Elrod finished out the game, making three saves. Amanda McQUillan made three saves for CCSU in 74:29 of action while Hannah Page played the final 15:31 of the contest.
The Mount is back in action at Merrimack on Friday, October 4, with a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
