The invitational is a 'Point of the Compass' format, with each team consisting of two players and each round consisting of a doubles match and two singles matches. The winner of the best-of-three advances to the next round.
Baltimore, Md. (September 27, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team failed to advance to the second round of the Loyola Invitational on Friday. All three doubles pairings will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday and Sunday in Baltimore.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountaineer's doubles team of Katie Schisler and Karen Anderson fell to George Mason's team of Hannah Harrod and Jackie Nannery. George Mason advanced 3-0 after all three matches were 6-0.
- The Mount's pairing of Megan Smith and Logan Lencheski were defeated 2-1 by Sydney Lund and Taylor Kuncl of Loyola. Lund defeated Smith 6-0, 6-4 while Lencheski topped Kuncl 4-6, 6-4, 10-5. The Greyhounds advanced with a 6-1 win in the doubles match.
- Loyola's second doubles pairing of Alexandria Agee and Lin Robertson downed Mount's Hannah Davis and Mia Pittman 3-0. Robertson defeated Davis 6-1, 6-2 while Agee downed Pittman 6-3, 6-2. The Loyola pairing won the doubles match 6-2.
The tournament continues tomorrow and will conclude on Sunday, September 29.
