Baltimore, Md. (September 20, 2019)--The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team had two teams advance to the quarterfinals of the Loyuola Men's Tennis Invitational held at the McClure Tennis Center on Friday.
Evan Hine and Jean Armstrong tallied a 2-1 win over Nate Ferro and Grant Williford in the first round today. The Mount won the doubles point, 6-2, with Armstong defeating Ferro (7-5, 6-4) while Hine fell to Williford (6-2, 6-3). Jackson Wood and Alonso Garcia cruised to a 3-0 win over a pair from Goucher and Loyola. The Mount duo won the doubles point, 6-2, with Wood won 6-2, 6-0 and Garcia 6-0, 6-0 in singles.
Russell Armstrong and Jarrett Karnibad fell to a pair from Goucher, 2-1. The Mountaineers were downed 6-3 in the doubles match, with Karnibad winning singles for the Mount's point in the match. Ben Porto and Christian Duran lost, 3-0, to Loyola's Matt's Fitzmaurice and Skyler Gates while the Mount's trio of Jacob Berg, Nick Huynh and Joshua Spiers fell 3-0 to a Morgan State tandem.
