Women's Lacrosse Handed First Loss of Season at Army West Point

West Point, N.Y. (February 23, 2019) – After opening the season with two consecutive victories, the Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse team was handed its first loss on Saturday, falling at Army West Point by a 10-6 margin.

The Mountaineers got their goals from six different players. Kate Kinsella and Alayna Pagnotta finished with two points (1g, 1a) apiece to lead the way.

Manuela Cortes netted a game-high three goals to pace Army, while Caroline Raymond and Rilee Scott each added two goals.

Jillian Petito posted a 10-save performance in goal for the Mount. Maddie Burns stopped four shots to secure the win for Army.

Army got a pair of goals from Cortes followed by a tally by Raymond in the opening two and a half minutes of the contest to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead.

Jordan Butler recorded the Mount's first goal of the game at the 23:05 mark to cut into the Black Knights' lead, but Army's Jackie Brattan answered under two minutes later to make it a three-goal advantage once again.

At the midway mark of the half, the Mountaineers received back-to-back goals by Kinsella and Taylor Carhart to bring them within just one, 4-3. Raymond netted her second of the game for Army at the 13:10 mark, but the Mount held the Black Knights scoreless the rest of the way and Beanie Colson tallied a late first-half goal to trim the Mount's deficit to 5-4 heading into the break.

Army netted a pair of quick goals to begin the second as Scott and Samantha Stewart found the back of the net to make it a 7-4 game. The Black Knights followed with tallies from Megan Raftery, Cortes and Scott to push its run to five straight to open the second half and extend the advantage to 10-4 at the 16:12 mark.

The Mountaineers went without a goal in the half until the 3:12 mark when Jordan Groover registered a free-position tally. Pagnotta scored with 41 seconds remaining, but Army would go on for the 10-6 victory to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the year. The loss dropped the Mount to 2-1 this season.

Army outshot the Mount 30-19 in the contest and won 11 of 18 draw controls.

Mount St. Mary's returns to Emmitsburg to take on La Salle on March 1 at 7 p.m.
