Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (October 26, 2019)—Mount St. Mary's lost to Wagner, 1-0, on a late goal on Senior Night in Northeast Conference action at Waldron Family Stadium. The Seahawks scored with 3:09 remaining to break the scoreless tie.
In a nip-and-tuck second half, the Mount (3-12-1, 2-6-1 NEC) had a tremendous opportunity to take the lead in the 81st minute when Mikayla Bates was open in the middle of the penalty area. Wagner keeper Delaney Beck came up with a big save on the Bates shot to keep the score at 0-0.
The Seahawks generated a corner kick in the 87th minute, and Maria Nunez curled the corner kick directly into the net over Mount keeper Maggie Barron's head for the lone goal of the contest.
Wagner (5-10-1, 3-4-1 NEC) held a 16-to-8 shot advantage in the game, including a 7-to-4 margin in shots on goal. Barron made six saves for the Mount in the loss while Beck had four saves in the shutout victory.
The Mountaineers had three great scoring opportunities in the first half as Rockhill hit the post in the 15th minute while a pair of goals were called back due to offsides. Baron also made a couple of key saves in the half to keep the game scoreless.
The Mount honored seniors Jaylyn Chandler, Charlotte Elrod, Kristen Isoldi, Carter Merrigan and Sydni Surowiec prior to the game.
The Mountaineers close out the 2019 season at Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m.
