Mount Women's Soccer Falls to Sacred Heart

Fairfield, Conn. (October 20, 2019)—Mount St. Mary's fell at Sacred Heart, 3-0, in Northeast Conference action on Sunday afternoon.  The Pioneers scored all three goals in the second half to pull away for the victory.

In a scoreless opening half, Kalli Bell and Elisabeth Rockhill each had scoring opportunities for the Mountaineers (3-11-1, 2-5-1 NEC), but Sacred Heart goalkeeper Elyssa Kipperman made stops on the shots.  The Pioneers had their best chance late in the opening half, but saw Meadow Mancini's shot hit the cross bar.

Sacred Heart held a 9-to-5 edge in shots in the first half, but each team had just two shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.  Sacred Heart did generate six corner kicks in the first half compared to one for the Mountaineers.

The Pioneers (8-5-2, 5-1-1 NEC) put the pressure on early in the second half, with Mount keeper Maggie Barron making a save on a Michelle Clarkin shot.  Sacred Heart then and had a pair of shots hit the post before Anna Ludkiewicz finally got a shot past Barron in the 63rd minute for a 1-0 lead.  Clarkin extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal eight minutes later.  Mancini rounded out the scoring with a goal with 53 seconds left in the game.

Sacred Heart ended up with a 26-10 shot advantage in the game and a 13-2 edge in corner kicks.  Barron made seven saves for the Mount while Kipperman had five saves in the win.

Up next, the Mount hosts Wagner on Saturday, October 26, at 7 pm at Waldron Family Stadium.
