Orlando, Fla. (February 28, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team topped Davenport 4-3, and Rose-Hulman 5-2 on Wednesday. Senior, Brandon Wortkotter and freshman, Jackson Wood won both their doubles and singles matches to lead the Mountaineers.

The Mount jumped out to the early advantage by winning the point from doubles competition. Wortkotter and Wood edged Marc Lerch and Van Antwerpen 7-5 in the first flight. Freshman duo, Evan Hine and Parth Sharma downed Max Hartman and Michael Digby 6-4 in the third flight to secure the doubles point for the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary's and Davenport recorded the same amount of singles flight victories that gave the Mount the 4-3 victory. Wortkotter topped Lerch in three sets, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the first flight. Wood defeated Van Antwerpen in three sets as well, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second flight. In the sixth flight, Gabriel Santos won his second singles match of the year for the Mount by taking down Max Hartman 6-4, 6-4.

The Mountaineers took the point from doubles action against Rose-Hulman by winning the first and third flights again. Wortkotter and Wood recorded another win on the day by defeating Ian Landwehr and Austin Perry 6-1. Hine and Sharma did the same thing by topping Andrew Schiffman and Brendan Goldacker in the third flight of doubles competition.

Mount St. Mary's won four out of the six singles flights that secured the 5-2 match victory. In the second flight, Wood topped Cam Metzger 6-3, 6-4 for his second singles match victory of the day. Santos defeated Schiffman in two sets 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth flight for his second singles win of the day as well. The next two flights, flights five and six, Hine and Chris Lindsey downed Austin Perry and Goldacker.

Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams play Keiser on Thursday, March 1 at 1 PM.
