FINAL RESULTS
Baltimore, Md. (September 25, 2016) – Louis Tonon and Zachary Burau registered a sixth-place showing to highlight the final day of the Loyola Invitational for the Mount St. Mary's University men's tennis team.
The duo topped teammates Mateo DeSomocurcio and Jean Armstrong to advance to the fifth-place match. Tonon and Burau earned a 6-0 win in doubles, and Burau edged Armstrong, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (0), in singles to clinch the victory. DeSomocurcio downed Tonon, 6-3, 6-4, in the other singles match. Tonon and Burau eventually fell to Kang and Gu of Johns Hopkins in the fifth-place match.
DeSomocurcio and Armstrong swept the best-of-three against teammates Darren Mast and Brandon Wortkotter in the seventh-place match. The pairing claimed a 6-2 win in doubles, and DeSomocurcio topped Mast, 6-4, 7-5, and Armstrong notched a 6-3, 6-7 (6), (10-3) win over Wortkotter in singles.
Peter Landis and Sean McNulty claimed the other Mount victory on the final day, topping Will Andrews and Scott Thygessen of Johns Hopkins by taking two-of-three. The duo won their doubles match by a 6-2 margin, and McNulty earned a win in singles to clinch the victory.
The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, September 28 for a match with Johns Hopkins at 3:30 p.m. in Emmitsburg.
