Baltimore, Md. (September 24, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team completed day two of the Loyola Invitational at the Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday.
In the Mount's first quarterfinal match, David Perez and Matt Sklar of Johns Hopkins topped Darren Mast and Brandon Wortkotter by taking two-of-three. Wortkotter downed Sklar, 7-6 (1), 3-6 (10-6), but Mast fell to Perez, 6-3, 7-5, and the Blue Jays' duo posted a 6-0 victory in doubles to advance.
Louis Tonon and Zachary Burau registered a 6-4 win in doubles over Johns Hopkins' Aaron Carey and Joe Cartledge, but Carey topped Tonon, 6-2, 6-1, and Cartledge earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Burau in singles to secure the round's victory.
In the final quarterfinal match for the Mount, Tyler Roth and Stefan Suarz of Villanova edged Mateo DeSomocurcio and Jean Armstrong by taking two-of-three. The Mount duo earned a 7-6 (6) win in doubles action, but Roth registered a 6-3, 4-6 (13-11) win over DeSomocurcio and Suarz downed Armstrong, 7-5, 6-2.
In consolation action, Peter Landis and Sean McNulty took two-of-three over Villanova's Dylan Flanagan and Jimmy Purdy to reach the semifinals. The Mount pairing earned a 7-5 win in doubles, and McNulty posted a win in singles action to secure the victory. In semifinal action, Landis and McNulty fell to Luis Miranda and William Elmore of Villanova, who won all three matches in the best-of-three.
The Mount wraps up the final day of competition at the Loyola Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 25), with action beginning at 9 a.m.
