Mount Women's Lacrosse Topped by Bryant in NEC Opener

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 8, 2016) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse team opened Northeast Conference play with a 17-7 loss at the hands of Bryant on Friday at Waldron Family Stadium.

Jess DeMeo led all scorers with six goals, while Shannon Sullivan (4g, 1a) and Catlin Brown (2g, 3a) added five points each to help pace the Bryant attack.

Kelly Maloney and Sammie Knapp provided the offense for the Mount, tallying two goals apiece, while Nicole Lantuh, Molly Morris and Nicole Snyder chipped in with one goal each.

The Bulldogs scored the opening seven goals of the contest, including two apiece from DeMeo and Sullivan, and took a 10-2 advantage into the halftime break. Maloney and Snyder registered the tallies for the Mountaineers in the period.

The Mount netted three of the first four goals of the second half to get back into the game, cutting its deficit to 11-5 at the 21:14 mark. Bryant responded with the next six goals in a span of 13 minutes to regain control of the contest.

Knapp and Morris tallied the final two goals of the tilt, but Bryant closed out the 17-7 win to move to 1-0 in conference play.

Samantha Santeramo grabbed her sixth win of the season in goal for the Bulldogs, while Steph Rurkowski took the loss for the Mount despite making eight saves.

Mount St. Mary's hosts Central Connecticut this Sunday (April 10) in the second NEC game of the season. Opening draw from Waldron Family Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
