The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's tennis teams host Loyola this Wednesday (April 6) on the Mount's Senior Day in Emmitsburg. The match marks the final one at home for the Mount this season.
MOUNT UPDATE
The Mount men's team went 1-2 this past week, claiming a 7-0 victory over Lafayette, while falling to Morgan St., 4-3, and conference foe Saint Francis U., 7-0. Austin Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio earned victories in each of their three doubles matches at the top flight, and Blake also posted a pair of singles victories at No. 1 against Morgan St. and Lafayette.
The 7-0 victory over Lafayette highlighted the team's week, as Blake notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the top flight of singles, and DeSomocurcio followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2, Louis Tonon won 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 at No. 3, Darren Mast earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, Brandon Wortkotter won 6-4, 6-2 at the fifth flight and Peter Landis registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
On the women's side, the Mountaineers earned a 7-0 victory over UMES in the team's final match on Sunday, but fell to Morgan St. (5-2), Lafayette (5-2) and Saint Francis U. (6-1). Sruthi Kamprath and Brittany Poje went a perfect 4-0 at the second flight of doubles to lead the Mount during the week.
In the squad's 7-0 shutout of UMES, Kelly Smith won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Poje earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2, Benefiel registered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the third flight, Emma Blake won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Sam Barbato posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fifth flight.
SENIOR DAY
Anthony Adams, Austin Blake and Peter Salomon from the men's team and Isabella Draper from the women's squad will be honored prior to the match as part of Senior Day for their contributions to the program and university throughout their four years at the Mount.
