Mount Men's Tennis Splits Final Two Matches on Spring Trip

March 7, 2016 – The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team closed out its spring trip to Florida with a 4-2 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday and a 7-0 victory over Wartburg on Thursday.

The Mountaineers earned the doubles point against Bethune-Cookman as Austin Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio earned a 6-3 win at the top flight and Peter Salomon and Darren Mast registered a 7-5 victory at No. 3. Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter fell by a 6-3 margin at No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, Alexander Chepik topped DeSomocurcio, 6-1, 7-6, at No. 1 and Walid Gtari earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Blake at No. 2, before Tonon registered the Mount's lone singles victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Justin Hall at the third flight. Greg Almeida defeated Mast, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4 singles and Alvaro Barrera topped Salomon, 6-2, 6-1, in the fifth flight.

On Thursday, the Mount won all nine matches to earn a sweep of Wartburg. In doubles competition, Blake and DeSomocurcio won 8-0 at the top flight, Tonon and Wortkotter claimed a 8-2 victory at No. 2 and Mast and Salomon also won 8-2 at No. 3.

In singles action, DeSomocurcio won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Blake earned a 6-2, 2-1 win at No. 2 and Tonon won 6-4, 6-2 at the third flight. Mast claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4, Salomon registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 and Wortkotter posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the sixth flight.
