Box Score Farmville, Va. (March 5, 2016) – Molly Morris and Sammie Knapp combined for seven points to lead Mount St. Mary's, but Longwood outscored the Mount by a 10-4 margin in the second half to earn a 16-9 victory on Saturday in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Morris registered four points on two goals and two assists, and Knapp posted a team-high three goals as the duo combined for seven points in the contest. Kelly Maloney and Nicole Lantuh tallied two goals apiece for the Mount's other scores.
Katie McHugh led all scorers in the game with seven points (4g, 3a), and Madison Stair, Sarah Butler and Madison Stair chipped in with three goals apiece.
Steph Rurkowski took the loss in net despite making 16 saves in the contest. Her counterpart, Imani West, stopped 12 shots to earn the win.
The Mountaineers scored three of the opening four goals in the contest, including a pair from Morris, to take an early 3-1 advantage.
Longwood closed out the first half with three goals in the final 3:58 of play to take a 6-5 advantage heading into the break.
The Lancers outscored Mount St. Mary's 6-1 in the first 12-plus minutes of the second period to extend their lead to 12-6, but the Mount answered back with a pair of tallies from Lantuh and Knapp to cut the deficit to 12-8 with 13:20 remaining in the tilt. The Lancers iced the game with the next three goals, and went on for the 16-9 victory.
