Baltimore (March 21, 2016) -- The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's tennis teams swept Coppin State on Monday as the men claimed a 7-0 victory and the women earned a 6-0 win over the Eagles.
On the men's side, Mateo DeSomocurcio and Austin Blake earned a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter registered a 6-1 victory at the second flight and Darren Mast and Peter Salomon claimed a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, Blake posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top flight, DeSomocurcio won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2, Tonon earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, Mast registered a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fourth flight, Salomon won 8-0 at No. 5 and Wortkotter posted a 8-1 in at the sixth flight.
On the women's side, Kelly Smith and Erin Benefiel earned a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles and Emma Blake and Brittany Poje claimed a 6-1 win at No. 2.
Smith also posted a victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Poje earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2, Benefiel won 6-1, 6-2 at the third flight, Sruthi Kamprath claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Blake rounded out the singles victories with an 8-5 win at No. 5.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday, March 23 for a home match against Bucknell beginning at 3 p.m.
