Knapp's Last-Second Overtime Winner Lifts Mount Women's Lacrosse Past Manhattan

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 12, 2015) – Junior Sammie Knapp scored with just one second remaining in overtime to lift Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse past Manhattan, 8-7, on Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.

With seconds showing on the clock, Knapp weaved her way to the top of the arc and fired a shot over goalkeeper Nikki Prestiano's right shoulder for the game-winning tally as the Mount collected its first victory of the season.

Knapp was also responsible for sending the game into overtime as she scored the game-tying goal on a free-position attempt with 3:41 remaining in regulation. The junior finished the contest with two goals, a team-high four draw controls and a pair of ground balls.

Nicole Lantuh and Molly Morris each tallied three goals and two assists for a combined 10 points in the contest to lead the Mountaineer attack.

A goal by Sarah Lang of Manhattan at the 17:48 mark of the second half gave the Jaspers a two-goal advantage, 7-5, but Lantuh responded for the Mount off a feed from Morris at the 13:41 mark, and Knapp followed with her first of the contest to send the game into the extra period.

Manhattan jumped out to a 3-1 lead midway through the opening frame with tallies from three different players, before Morris and Lantuh registered back-to-back goals to tie the game at 3-all. The teams traded goals in the final nine minutes of the half as they headed into the break all tied at 4-4.

Senior goalie Steph Rurkowski stopped eight shots in the contest to pick up the win in cage for the Mount, while Prestiano made five saves for Manhattan and took the loss.

The Mountaineers are back in action for a road tilt at Niagara on Friday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
