Mount Men's Tennis Earns Pair of Wins to Open Florida Spring Trip

Orlando, Fla. (March 1, 2016) -- The Mount St. Mary's University men's tennis team opened its spring trip to Florida with a pair of victories over Davenport and Webber International. The Mountaineers topped Davenport by a 5-2 final on Sunday before earning a 7-0 victory over Webber International on Monday.

The Mount swept doubles competition on Sunday as Austin Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio posted a 9-8 (7-4) win at the top flight, and Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter earned an 8-5 win at No. 2 and Peter Salomon and Darren Mast also registered an 8-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Mount St. Mary's won the top-three singles matches, led by a 5-7, 6-3, 10-7 win by DeSomocurcio at No. 1, a 6-3, 7-5 win from Blake at No. 2 and a 6-0, 6-4 victory by Tonon at the third flight. Mast fell in No. 4 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 10-2, Salomon earned a 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-5 win at the fifth flight and Wortkotter dropped a 6-3, 7-6(6) decision at No. 6 singles.

On Monday against Webber International, the Mount swept doubles competition as DeSomocurcio and Blake earned an 8-6 win at the top flight, Tonon and Wortkotter posted an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and Salomon and Mast earned an 8-0 victory at No. 3.

Blake posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and DeSomocurcio (6-3, 6-1) and Tonon (7-6(7), 6-0) earned victories at the second and third flights, respectively. Mast earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4, Wortkotter posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the fifth flight and Peter Landis registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

The Mountaineers return to action Tuesday for a match with Bethune-Cookman at 2:30 p.m.
