Mount Women's Lacrosse Falls at Lehigh; Rurkowski Posts Career-High 18 Saves

Bethlehem, Pa. (February 27, 2016) – Mount St. Mary's University women's lacrosse dropped a 12-3 decision to Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex despite a career-high 18 saves from senior goalie Steph Rurkowski.

Junior middie Kelly Maloney led the Mountaineers with a pair of goals and now tops the squad with three on the season. Maloney also added three ground balls and two draw controls in the game. Senior attack Nicole Snyder registered her second goal of the year for the Mount's other score in the contest.

Allison Labeau notched a game-high six points on five goals and one assist, and Haley Wentzel added five points on four scores and an assist to lead the Mountain Hawks to victory.

Rurkowski made 10 saves in the first half and eight in the second to collect a career high 18 stops, while posting a .600 save percentage in cage for the Mount. Her counterpart, Taylor Tvedt, stopped seven shots to earn the win for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh tallied the opening five goals of the game, including three from LaBeau and a pair from Wentzel, to jump out to a 5-0 advantage midway through the first half. The Mount responded with two of the period's final three goals as Snyder and Maloney each tallied their second scores of the season to cut the deficit to 6-2 heading into the halftime break.

The Mountain Hawks extended their lead to 9-2 with three goals in the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, capped by Wentzel's third score of the contest.

Maloney registered her second goal of the contest and third of the season at the 11:32 mark to bring the Mount within six, 9-3, but the Mountain Hawks sealed the win with the final three tallies of the contest as they went on for the 12-3 victory.

The Mount returns to action with a home game at Waldron Family Stadium against American on Wednesday, March 2 at 4 p.m.
