Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (February 20, 2016) – Mount St. women's lacrosse fell to Bucknell, 11-5, in the Mount's season opener on Saturday at Waldron Stadium. Four different Mountaineers tallied two points apiece in the contest.
Sammie Knapp, Nicole Lantuh, Kelly Maloney and Molly Morris each registered two points on a goal and an assist to pace the Mount's offense, and Nicole Snyder added the Mountaineers' other goal on the afternoon.
Gretchen Richter of Bucknell led all scorers with five points (3g, 2a), while Emily Becker (3g, 1a), Christina Manis (2g, 1a), and Eve Lukowski (2g) also notched multiple points to help pace the Bison's offense.
Senior goalie Steph Rurkowski made 12 saves in cage for the Mount, while her counterpart, Jamie DeWitt, stopped eight shots to collect her second win of the season.
Bucknell scored the first three goals of the contest in the opening nine-plus minutes to jump out to the early advantage. Maloney got the Mountaineers on the board off a feed from Knapp at the 16:18 mark to cut the Mount's deficit to 3-1.
Lukowski and Manis scored back-to-back goals just eight seconds apart to push the Bucknell lead to 5-1, but Morris responded for the Mount just over two minutes later off an assist from Lantuh to bring the Mountaineers back within three, 5-2.
The Bison scored the final four goals of the half, all coming within the final 4:14 of play, to extend their lead to 9-2 heading into the break.
Bucknell notched two of the opening three goals of the second half to push its lead to 11-3 at the midway mark. Snyder and Knapp answered with a goal each for the Mount, but it wasn't enough as Bucknell earned the 11-5 victory to move to 2-0 on the year.
The Mountaineers travel to George Mason for their first road contest of the year this Wednesday, February 24 at 4 p.m.
